This early variety forms round, solid heads that are larger than other early-season cabbages. It has a good keeping ability (up to 6 months), excellent uniformity, and rich flavour. This variety is outstanding for coleslaw, easy to grow, and perfect for small gardens.

 

History

A Danish heirloom introduced by H. Hartman & Co. in 1909. It took two years to arrive in America, where it was first offered by the Burpee company.

 

Growing

Plant after risk of frost is past. Brassicas grow best in cooler weather. These plants like to be moist, so it is best to mulch them generously and water regularly (however too much water can cause the heads to split). Cover if a hard frost is expected.
